Training
Safe and Together Model for Substance Abuse and Mental Health Treatment Providers
For many families involved in the child welfare system, domestic violence is often co-occuring with substance abuse or mental health. Community providers often receive referrals from child welfare, but may not have a clear sense of child welfare’s concerns, goals, or expectations.
The training will provide an overview of the Safe and Together model with a specific focus on best practices for working with both survivors and perpetrators of domestic violence as well as how to best support children in their healing process.
We will concentrate on connecting the dots between trauma and safety in the context of mental health, substance abuse, child maltreatment and domestic violence. In addition, participants will learn the importance of collaborating with child welfare workers to provide support to domestic violence survivors and their children and hold perpetrators of domestic violence responsible for their behaviors while providing them with potentially necessary treatment.
Target Audience: This training is for local community professionals who work with substance abusers or persons with mental health issues, including trauma issues. The training will be appropriate for child mental health providers as well.
