Direct Service- Individual and Family Support

Individual and Group Family Counseling

NoVA offers individual and group counseling and education sessions for men who want to end their violence with their families. The counselors work to support your decision to stop the downward spiral of your life created by your violent actions. Now, you can commit to end your violence and get the help you need.

The primary goal of our counseling services is to help our clients change their behavior-to end their violent, abusive and/or controlling behaviors.

We do this by helping our clients:

  • Better understand their pattern of control, abuse and/or violence
  • Understand the damaging effects of their actions on their relationships, their partners, their children and themselves
  • Develop practical plans for stopping their abusive behavior by exploring non-controlling and non-manipulative ways of being in relationships
  • Rethink their sense of entitlement to act in abusive and controlling ways with their loved ones

These services are available in Middletown, Hartford, New Haven, Waterbury and Meriden. Our program accepts voluntary and mandated clients. If you have a problem with physical violence and/or emotional abuse, please contact us by phone at: (860) 347-8220 or (800) 349-6682 or via email at: novamanager@endingviolence.com.

Family Violence Education Program (FVEP)

NoVA also offers a program for first time offenders of domestic violence. The Family Violence Education Program (FVEP) is a pre-trial diversion program available through criminal court for some defendants in family violence cases. This nine week program runs one night a week and provides education about and alternatives to family violence.

The purpose of the Family Violence Education Program offered by The Non-Violence Alliance is to:

  • Assist offenders in understanding and taking responsibility for their acts of violence and abuse
  • Help offenders make decisions to stop their abuse by looking at the damaging effects of their actions on their relationships, their partners, their children and themselves
  • Help offenders understand that their behavior is the result of their desire to gain power and control over their partner's life
  • Give offenders practical information on how to stop their abusive behavior by exploring non-controlling and non-manipulative ways of being in relationships

To look at some self-examination questions to see if you or someone you know might have a problem with domestic violence, please take some time to review our questionnaire "Are You an Abusive Man?" (Click Here).
