Tools to Improve Child Protection Agencies' Responses to BatterersThe Non-Violence Alliance has dedicated itself to helping child protection professionals improve the effectiveness of their interventions with batterers. Intervening with batterers can help protect children and reduce the unnecessary revictimization of the non-offending parent. As part of its Children and Batterer Accountability Initiative developed and implemented for Connecticut's Department of Children and Families, NoVA has created tools to help determine a child protection agency practices as they relate to batterers. The Case Review Form (4 pages) can be used to help an agency develop a baseline for its practices regarding batterers and then measure progress as it makes changes. It captures data, essential for making policy decisions, that is often not available through information technology systems. The Worker and Supervisor Survey (4 pages) can help measure the attitudes of child protection staff towards batterers. Similar to the Case Review Form, it can be used to both gather baseline data and measure changes over time. |
